Xi’an Jiaotong University (XJTU) is delighted to announce that on 1 February 2025 Professor Peter Van den Bossche, a globally acclaimed scholar in the field of international economic law, will join the faculty as a University Leading Scholar. In addition, he has been appointed as Distinguished Professor of International Economic Law under China’s National Talents Programme.
Professor Van den Bossche brings an extraordinary wealth of academic and professional experience to XJTU. From 2009 to 2019, he served as Member and Chair of the Appellate Body of the World Trade Organization (WTO) and, more recently, as Director of the World Trade Institute of the University of Bern, Switzerland. Since 2018, he is the President of the Society of International Economic Law (SIEL). He is the author (with Werner Zdouc) of the leading textbook on WTO law, of which the 5thedition was published by Cambridge University Press in 2021. He is the author (with Professor Dean SHAN Wenhua) of a Chinese edition of this book published by Law Press China in 2019. His work has profoundly shaped the global understanding of international trade law and dispute settlement, earning him recognition as a leading figure in the field.
As a leading scholar, Professor Van den Bossche will contribute to advancing research and teaching at XJTU’s School of Law. His appointment is a testament to the university’s commitment to fostering global academic excellence and building a world-class platform for legal research and education.

Peter Van den Bossche教授有着极为卓越的学术和职业经历。他目前担任世界国际经济法学会会长，也是瑞士伯尔尼大学世界贸易研究所所长。2009至2019年，他曾担任世界贸易组织（WTO）上诉机构成员和主席。他与Werner Zdouc合著的“The Law and Policy of the World Trade Organization”是研究WTO与国际贸易法领域的“必读教材”，目前该书第五版已经由剑桥大学出版社出版。他还与单文华教授共同编写了该书的中文版本《世界贸易组织法原理》，于2019年由法律出版社出版。作为该领域的顶尖学者，Peter Van den Bossche教授的研究成果对于国际贸易法和WTO争端解决机制的发展产生了重要影响。
